Chapter Members on the Move
Cleota Proctor Wilbekin, a member and Parliamentarian of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Links Incorporated is an outstanding quilter and also a member of the Women of Color Quilters’ Network.
One of Cleota’s creations, a hand quilted lace communion robe was on display at the Threads of Faith quilt show which is touring the country. The communion robe consists of lace handed down through four generations of Cleota’s DesMoines, Iowa family. The lace robe has been accepted into the permanent quilt collection of the Smithsonian Institution-Anac costia Museum.
More of Cleota’s creations, a quilted jacket and vest, can be seen at the Textural Rhythms-Constructing the Jazz Tradition of Contemporary African American Quilts Show which is traveling the country through 2010. The exhibit is currently at the Reginald Lewis Museum in Baltimore Maryland.
Momma’s Apron, dedicated to Cleota’s Mother Julia Proctor, can be seen in the African American Women’s History: Our Challenges Creativity and Champions Show March 8, 2008 through the Fall Season. (Fill in location and name of African American Museum in Wilberforce, Ohio)
Cleota Wilbekin’s and other national quilters’ creations can currently be see on the Jumbo Tran in New York City’s Time Square.
